Questions to ask a tree care company

  1. How long have you been in business
This is a straightforward question and one they should easily be able to answer.  You don't want someone cutting down a large tree that has only been in business for 3 months.  Even if they have, you want to know what kind of experience they have.  Who did they previously work for and how long have they been in the industry.  If this is the first tree they have ever cut down then you should take a pass.
  2. What types of precautions are taken
Working with large trees is tricky, but working with a house and other personal belongings right next to a large tree is something different.  How will they ensure that your property stays safe?  Do they use any protective equipment?  How do they protect your lawn from getting completely destroyed?  At a minimum, you can protect lawns from skid marks by laying down some plywood.
  3. What kind of equipment do you own/use
The more equipment they use and own,  the more experienced and reputable they are likely to be.  When business owners invest in their equipment it means that they see enough business to justify the expense and that they are committed to their trade.
  4. Are you insured
As experienced as someone may be, we are all human and mistakes do happen.  It is always better to have insurance and not need it than to need it and not have it.  For peace of mind, ask if they are properly insured.
  5. How much do you charge
Arborists should be very transparent about their pricing and it shouldn't be a mystery.  Ask to get a formal quote and compare it against other professionals in your area.  We certainly don't recommend choosing a professional on price alone, but if you feel that numbers are being fudged, move on to another professional who is a straight shooter.

The Story of All Season Tree Service of Elgin

We have always been local to the Elgin area, our families have been here for generations and we grew up going to the local schools.  As young children we grew up learning to care for trees, we learned important tree pruning skills and proper care and maintenance.

Eventually we started removing small tree limbs as the size of our tools started growing.  Eventually our experience as tree trimmers and cutters evolved into something larger and we started purchasing bigger equipment to take on larger projects. We are now extremely proficient at tree stump grinding, stump removal, dead branch removal and tree topping services in addition to our other core set of services.

We truly appreciate the all the business our community has given us over the years and we hope to be able to service you for many years to come.  We want you to know that we operate under the highest level of care and we truly believe that in order for us to stay in business for years down the road, we need to stay completely honest with our clients, maintain transparency with what we do and how we do it and always do what’s right for our clients and our staff.  Doing what’s right is not always the easiest decision, but life isn’t always easy, right?

The Importance of Selecting The Right Tree Service Company

Being in the tree service and logging sector is the most dangerous industry among the 25 most dangerous jobs to work for according to USA Today.  As it mentions, this is because the work is very physically demanding and you are constantly being approached by fast moving objects that are being kicked back.  Also, working with heavy machinery that can cause tremendous physical damage is extremely dangerous. This is why we place such a large emphasis on safety, we would rather bring in additional equipment than to risk safety just for the sake of getting something done.

When our customers tell us that another company quoted them a much lower price, our first question is always: how will they get it done and which equipment will they be forgoing.  Our stance is that if you don’t have the right tool for the job then you shouldn’t be doing it - not for tree service anyway.

You also want to make sure that the company is fully licensed, bonded and insured so that any potential liability doesn’t fall on you should an accident arise.  Having insurance is also a reflection of the status of a company. Any tree care company in Elgin that doesn’t have insurance is just not reputable and should be disregarded.

Punctuality is also extremely important in picking the right company, if you need emergency tree service then you need to know that the company will show up when they say they will, not when it’s convenient for them.  They may be finishing up from another job an hour away and won’t be able to realistically service you for another several hours. “Emergency” in our opinion means “NOW” and if we simply cannot service you “NOW” then we’ll be honest and upfront with you about it.

What Are The Benefits of Tree Trimming?

Just like anything else in life, proper tree care, trimming and pruning is important to the health of a large, strong tree.  Although trees don’t need weekly care, they do have cycles that require care and maintenance and it’s even more important that this get done when trees are so close to your home.

There are several ways your tree can benefit from a simple pruning or crown reducing trim:

  • Not only does it improve the aesthetic look and the structure of the tree, but trimming prevents branches from fighting for the crown space and it reduces crossing of the limbs to prevent crotching
  • Tree maintenance will remove branches that are dead or dying.  These are the most dangerous branches and we’ve seen them destroy garages, cars and injure people during their downfall.  Not only that, but removing dead branches prevents decay.
  • Trees that grow uncontrollably are more likely to grow into power lines and have dead branches pull the lines down as they fall.  Live power lines can be life threatening and trees with overhanging branches should always be carefully watched after.
  • Pruning your fruit trees will yield larger quantities of fruit, they should be pruned in late winter to expose the center of the tree to sunlight and allow room for fruit growth.

When is the best time to prune and trim a tree?

It's long been proven that trees respond much better to trauma in the colder seasons than in the warmer seasons.  There are several reasons for this but one of the primary reasons being that it is less susceptible to opportunistic bugs, insects and bacteria that could attack the exposed area.  Anytime there is a fresh, open wound the tree could become diseased, and if left untreated, could die.  Therefore, the best time to prune and trim a tree is anytime between leaves are falling and when leaves are just starting to bloom.  In other words, between late fall (second half of November to December) to early spring (late March to early April).
